The One State Solution - A Free Android Application
The One State solution would bring the pre-1967 Israel and the West Bank together under a single state. This state would be called the Holy Land and would be home to both Jews and Palestinians, who would be granted equal rights to live and work anywhere they chose in the Holy Land. They would also have equal voting rights in national elections. The capital would be in Jerusalem.
The One State vision is not without its challenges. One of the biggest is the problem of Israel's self-definition as a Jewish State. Although the Holy Land assumes equality for all, Israel systematically favors Jews in all aspects of its national identity. This privilege extends to immigration, employment, housing, political rights, and security organs. Few states would be willing to change their national identity and political institutions.
In order for the One State solution to succeed, it must overcome the widespread Palestinian and Israeli Jewish opposition. The degree of Palestinian opposition will depend on the exact form of the state. Another challenge is overcoming the opposition of major players from both sides of the conflict, including Israeli settlers and Palestinian refugees. However, the One State solution is far from the only possible solution.
A One State solution requires more compromise. Both Israel and Palestine would retain their sovereignty but would have to share resources. There would also need to be agreement regarding the boundaries of the two states. The One State solution would require international recognition and extensive negotiations to achieve peace.
